Hello again,

You may notice this Captain’s Log looks a little different… I’ll get to that shortly.

We’ve made many updates to the site, so let’s start with the most interesting.

Steam Account Linking

You can now link your KrakenKeys account with your Steam account, and new users can sign up with Steam. Currently, this allows you to:

• See your Steam wishlist on KrakenKeys, and set price alerts for those games.
• Log in with Steam, one click login, no more forgotten passwords!

To link your Steam account, go to your account page, and in the overview section you’ll see a link button. Clicking that will take you to Steam. You’ll need to click the Authorize button, and that’s it. All done.

Signing up with Steam is super easy too, on the registration page simply click ‘Register with Steam’. Or if you log in with Steam and don’t have a KrakenKeys account - we’ll make one for you.

This uses Steam’s official API, and we only store your Steam ID. You can unlink your Steam account via the “My Account” page on KrakenKeys.

Wishlist

We now pull your Steam wishlist once you’ve linked your Steam account. This can only be done if your Steam profile is public.

It’s done automatically when linked, and you can sync it through the wishlist page in “My Account”.

The idea behind this feature is for you to be able to easily see the prices of all games on your wishlist. You can also create price alerts from here, so you don’t miss out on any deals.

I thought it’d be fun to see the total price of your wishlist - and it was, until I realised that my current Steam wishlist is a little unrealistic. Maybe I’ll own and have those games completed in the next 10 years…

Steam Library & Wishlist Calculators

We’ve launched two calculators for everyone to use, no account needed. All that’s needed is your Steam ID, or profile URL. We wanted to make this feature available whether you have a KrakenKeys account or not, and we don’t store your Steam data to do this. You can find both these calculators in the navigation dropdown, or you’ll find the links in our footer.

Steam Library Calculator - Ever wondered how much your Steam library is worth? Well now you can find out! We show you three prices:

• The total cost of your library if you bought it from Steam today - with no sales or discounts.
• The total cost of your library if you bought it today from publisher partnered stores, with discounts.
• The total cost of your library if you bought from any store (including Keystores) with discounts.

This should give you a good sense of how much it’d cost for you to rebuild your library today. We also show some basic stats like time played and display all the games with their current cheapest price.

Steam Wishlist Calculator - This is the same as importing your wishlist by linking your Steam account to your KrakenKeys account, except it’s available to everyone, account or not. It was created so you can easily see how much your wishlist is worth, and where you can find those games even cheaper.

Prices - Bug Reporting

We’ve added the ability for you to create bug reports for prices.

Sometimes, mistakes happen. A price might be listed for a game, yet it’s for an edition that we don’t know about, or the price is just wrong.

In the rare case this does happen, we don’t want people to suffer in silence. You can quickly create a bug report for that specific price, and it’ll be looked into & resolved as quick as possible.

To make a bug report, click on the three dots next to the price. This will bring up a menu, clicking “Report Issue” will open up a form.

All we ask is for you to include as much information as you can, so we can quickly resolve any issues.

Account Page Overhaul

Whilst working on the Steam integration, we felt that the account page needed some love. It’s been redesigned, making it easier to find the information you’re looking for.

Alongside this, we’ve made it easier to get to your price alerts and wishlist. This can now be done through the navigation dropdown.

We are pretty happy with how it turned out, but feedback is always welcome. See the last section of this blog to see how you can leave feedback.

Advanced Search Improvements

Our advanced search tool was a little hard to get to on mobile. Now, if you press enter in the search bar, you’ll be taken to the advanced search tool.

You can still access it via the navigation dropdown, and we still suggest using it in the bottom of the searchbar.

We’ve also redesigned how we display results on the advanced search page, making it much easier to understand the information you’re looking at. Previously we relied on icons, but we felt that they weren’t clear enough.

We’ve made some performance improvements to this page, which brings me onto the next point…

Performance Improvements

We’ve been fine tuning the sites performance over the past few weeks. This month we launched some new tooling for monitoring which has helped us understand where we have room for improvement.

The homepage load time has improved, along with search results & loading a games page. This is an ongoing piece of work, our aim is to provide users with the fastest game price comparison platform.

If you ever have any performance issues, please reach out to us. Which, again, brings me to the next point.

Feedback

We love feedback. Positive, negative, unrelated - it’s all good stuff. If you have a spare few minutes and have something to say, please do so by:

• Using our contact form here: https://krakenkeys.com/contact
• Emailing us at [email protected]

Say hello!

Finally

It’s been a busy month, but we aren’t slowing down, there’s some really exciting work in the pipeline and I’m looking forward to writing about it in the next Captain’s Log.

Until then - happy deal hunting!
