February — Three New Stores, Currency Conversion & More!
Another Busy Month!
Hi all, as winter finally draws to an end I thought it’d be a good time to share some of the things we’ve been working on this month.
K4G, Fanatical & GameBoost
We’ve added three new stores to KrakenKeys.
- K4G - Keys for games. Established in 2021, and have quickly become very popular. They have tens of thousands of great deals.
- Fanatical - Another publisher partnered store! Fanatical are one of the largest publisher partnered stores, and we are super happy to be able to finally show their deals on KrakenKeys.
- GameBoost - Their primary focus is selling online gaming services, yet they have a large amount of deals for Steam games. We’ve been using them for a couple of months, so we thought it was time to add them. They only display prices in EUR and USD, so not only have we added them to KrakenKeys, but we’ve release currency conversion!
Currency Conversion
As mentioned above, we couldn’t introduce GameBoost without bringing in some form of curency conversion. The storefront only displays prices in USD & EUR. We didn’t want anyone who uses GBP to be left out.
To tackle this, we architectured some new jobs and services to allow us to accurately convert currencies.
Here’s an example of a converted price:
We indicate it with a yellow tilde character. If you hover over the price, you can see a breakdown - including the exchange rate used.
We will be slowly bringing in more currencies over the coming months, if there’s a specific currency you’d like added - please let us know in the comments. Or feel free to reach out to us at: [email protected]
Enhanced Steam Library Calculator
We gave both the Steam library calculator and the wishlist calculator a fairly significant redesign this month. The overview section in particular is looking a lot cleaner now — the new layout gives a better, more rounded picture of your library rather than just throwing numbers at you.
One of the additions I’ve personally enjoyed is the Gamer Archetype — calculated from your favourite games, it’s been a fun little thing to compare across the team. Further down the page you’ll find a more detailed breakdown of your full library.
The new layout, combined with a deeper dive into your library stats feels like a more fair analysis into your library.
We also received our very first feature request this month! A user asked for sortable tables in both calculators, as well as the ability to export data to CSV, both of which we’ve now added. A huge shoutout to them for being the first to reach out; they were a pleasure to work with and it was really encouraging to get that kind of engagement early on.
Navigation & Homepage changes
The homepage was starting to feel a little cluttered, and a lot of useful links were buried in the footer where nobody would think to look. We’ve introduced two sidebars. One for general navigation, and one for user specific links and settings. This should make getting around the site a lot more intuitive.
Small change, but one that we are happy with. It’ll hopefully bring some new readers to our Captain’s Log.
